The message emerges forcefully in both the lyrics and the video clip, through the use of <strong>religious symbolism<\/strong> and <strong>apocalyptic imagery<\/strong> depicting a planet headed toward its own unraveling. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the song, metaphors related to <strong>heaven and hell<\/strong> are reworked to describe the consequences of <strong>climate change<\/strong> and humanity&#8217;s central role in the destruction of the Earth. Billie Eilish overturns the traditional idea that &#8220;good people&#8221; are destined for heaven, suggesting instead that irresponsible and destructive behavior leads to an <strong>earthly<\/strong>, real and collective <strong>hell<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The song imagines a symbolic dialogue between <strong>God and the Devil<\/strong>, both perplexed and powerless in the face of man&#8217;s self-destructive actions. Verses such as <em>&#8220;Hills burn in California&#8221;<\/em> and <em>&#8220;Once the water starts to rise&#8221;<\/em> refer directly to concrete phenomena such as <strong>forest fires<\/strong> and<strong>rising sea levels<\/strong>, now tangible effects of the global climate crisis. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The refrain <em>&#8220;There&#8217;s nothing left to save now&#8221;<\/em> reinforces a <strong>deeply pessimistic<\/strong> view, suggesting that humanity has passed a possible <strong>point of no return<\/strong> in the compromise of environmental balances.
