Germs that can make you sick also lurk inside the home, so it is good to pay attention to environments such as the kitchen where there is not only food, but also utensils and surfaces that are used for cooking. The first basic step is to wash your hands well and often before, after, and while handling foods. Then remember to properly clean utensils, such as cutting boards and plates, and surfaces after each use, especially after touching raw meat, poultry, seafood, or eggs. Finally, remember that fruits and vegetables should be washed-but without soap or bleach-while meat, poultry and eggs should not (FoodSafety.gov).
