Scenario

Today, the food industry produces a large amount of food waste, which ends up in landfills, contributingto global anthropogenic carbon and methaneemissions and accelerating global warming. However, this waste has great potential for usein the cosmetics industry as a raw material rich in antioxidants, polyphenols, proteins, minerals, vitamins, carotenoids, lignans, polysaccharides, naturally derived polymers, and other substances (Nowak, 2024). Eliminating food industry waste and transforming it into valuable products has become essential for conserving natural resources and preventing methane and carbon dioxide emissions, thereby helping to promotea circular economy.

Description

Oltree is a sustainable brand, designed from the very beginning to fully comply with the most rigorous criteriaof the circular economy, from active ingredients to packaging. The ingredients and components of their cosmetic products come from raw materials that are normally discarded—that is, destined to go unused—despite being of excellent quality, simply because of cosmetic defects. Each formulation is based on hyper-fermented Vignola cherries, a process that enriches and enhances the plant’s natural phytocomplex, increasing its effectiveness in cosmetics.

Every product is entirely Made in Italy: the entire supply chain is based in Italy and involves local businesses and communities. They have a low environmental impact, including the packaging. All packaging is made from R-PET, a plastic obtained through the recovery and recycling of standard PET, which is itself recyclable. The paper used for the boxes is made from natural materials derived from the food processing industry—materials that are imperfect for large-scale industry but perfect for those who want to spark a small revolution.
