What is Make It Tasty? The event against food waste. It takes place in Turin and allows participants to meet companies, start-ups, universities and associations, active in the fight against waste and for food sustainability, creating an exchange of ideas, contacts and proposals. An event where you sit down at the table to experience the dinner of one or a great Chef, a dinner prepared with all those foods that, for aesthetic or commercial reasons, are discarded. Because the food we choose to eat is an engine of change.
Partners supporting the project include: Eataly, Acqua San Bernardo, Slow Food, Pollenzo University of Gastronomic Sciences, GreenPea, Morsy, Water To Food, Le Strade.
For Nothing Else, If Not Ourselves
We think it is crucial to combat food waste by creating a network of people who have a proactive interest in this issue, because only by rethinking our model of production and consumption will we overcome one of the most important and diriment challenges of the agri-food landscape, both globally and at the level of our cities.
Fighting food waste means slowing climate change. And recovering food means recovering those resources needed to produce it, such as water, soil, agricultural fuel. The message of Make It Tasty is to make it clear that it is necessary to fight climate change because it is not the Earth that is at risk, but we are: the fine balance on which we live on this beautiful planet. Fighting climate change benefits our economy and our society, which is why we must do it for no one else but ourselves.
The event
The event consists of four formats:
- #learninghub, a chance to meet start-ups, agribusinesses, associations and research projects and learn about the most innovative business opportunities in the fight against waste and engage with #innovators in the field. Over the years, we have involved more than 50 innovative and sustainable realities;
- #facetoface, an opportunity to present your food sustainability project or idea to an industry manager;
- the #talk, listening to and dialoguing with experts in the field to glean secrets and vision on future goals in combating food waste and the food-related circular economy;
- #thedinner, dinner, always of the highest standard, prepared by a Chef who can create delicious things with all those foods that are discarded for aesthetic or commercial reasons.
The results
Over the years we have achieved so much in the fight against food waste: thanks to each event we recover more than 500 kilograms of food. Together with the Chefs and our partners, we donated nearly 4,000 meals to third-sector associations and substantial donations to Foundations for Research. With Water To Food, our Sustainability Partner, we calculate the water footprint of our menu. During the last event, we recovered more than 900 liters of water for each diner. We were honored at the Global Food Innovation Summit among the best under-30 projects for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
And then there are the equally important results that we manage to calculate less, but which we care about more: the hundreds of relationships and contacts created between innovative realities, companies, universities, chefs and third sector associations.
