“Greta Thunberg – The Stomach” by author Marracash in the company of Cosmo is the fifteenth track from “Persona,” an album released on Oct. 30, 2019. This track addresses the issue of the climate crisis, using the figure of Greta Thunberg, the hugely popular Swedish activist as a symbol of the fight against climate change.

The lyrics convey a sense of pessimism about the future of the planet. But Marracash expresses how, in his opinion, individual actions such as recycling collection are not incisive enough to solve the big problem.

The author uses metaphors to describe the environmental situation and to criticize thehypocrisy of some superficial solutions and our habit of ignoring the real problems, such as the environment, present in the world.

One example is definitely this strong metaphor : “I destroy my environment, bro, like the Rapa Nui (Right now). I’m unconscious, so listen to him, hey” to emphasize man’s destruction of the planet .

The lyrics of this song, with the addition of the phrase “Right here, right now” spoken by Greta Thunberg’s voice, emphasize even more the seriousness of the problem and theurgency of action. Cosmo, too, with his phrase, “My race is going extinct,” reinforces the need for change.

Also, in the refrain with Cosmo’s entry, pessimism is abandoned by giving some hope, trying to convey how future generations could do better than previous generations and improve the current situation.

The video clip, somber and reflective, as indeed is almost all of the song’s lyrics, depicts a black-and-white scene of a child watching a non-functioning television while eating chips from the bag, leaving free interpretation.
