“Earth” by Eugenio In Via Di Gioia is an ode to the planet, described as a love to be protected, defended, and not taken for granted because “there was no more beautiful place.”
The song uses metaphors about global warming by comparing it to a burning passion (with phrases such as “we’re burning and it’s not jealousy” or “the heat blazing down here“) and celebrates the essential qualities of the Earth (“you so natural, perfect and essential,” and “you are music without words“), evoking childhood memories and a sense of security.
Images from the video clip, recount the flash mob organized by the band in Turin’s San Carlo Square to raise awareness of the global environmental crisis, making a loving dedication to the Earth: “I still love you.”
“Earth” is thus seen not only as a love song, but as a call to collective action to safeguard our planet, highlighting the connection between love for the Earth and love for people, and the importance of nature in the city.
