Mission Blue is a documentary that follows oceonographer Sylvia Earle’s campaign to safeguard the oceans from waste and overfishing.

The goal is to raise awareness about protecting the oceans by highlighting their importance for oxygen production as well, thus proving to be fundamental to our existence. The project behind the production is to create some “points of hope”, that is, points at which it is possible to concretely implement safeguarding. Photos, videos, multimedia graphics showing successes, discoveries and tragedies are a key part of “Mission Blue.”

Two parallel threads are followed that will be joined only at the end: on the one hand we have the protagonist’s and her collaborators’ account of the project, and on the other hand we have her biography from all points of view. She specifies that awareness of what human beings are capable of, both good and bad, is what drives her to continue working despite advancing age, and thus to make the documentary.
