“Catalogue” by Willy Peyote is a song that explores with irony and depth the condition of the individual in contemporary society, highlighting how people have become both sellers and products in a market dominated by appearance and rapid consumption. The piece highlights how our identity is constructed and presented as a catalog object, with curated photos and appealing descriptions, ready to be evaluated and chosen by others (Santachiara, 2019). This process is fueled by social media and smart algorithms that match us to the millimeter, knowing our desires and anticipating our needs.

A central theme of the song is planned obsolescence, not only applied to products, but also extended to personal relationships (Picciafoco, 2019). Peyote points out how everything ages faster, overnight, and how constant replacement has become a norm, both for objects and people. This leads to a reflection on the superficiality of human relationships and the loss of authenticity, where loneliness and dissatisfaction become constant companions. Through direct language and rich cultural references, “Catalogue” critiques the society of image and consumption, inviting the listener to question his or her own role in this system and the possibility of recovering a more authentic and lasting dimension in relationships and self-perception (Peyote, 2019).
