The Circular Song was written by the group Elio e le Storie Tese for Legambiente. The music joins the theme of the economy of the future: a circular model that moves away from the linear model, which is responsible for the destruction of the environment, people and planet.

The video clip is inspired by the video games of the 1980s, a period when Walter Stahel’s first paper on Circular Economy was published and where the group Elio e le Storie Tese originated. Those years were also characterized by unlimited growth, an exponential increase in consumption and waste production worldwide, as well as the consideration of environmental protection as an elitist concept and obstacle to development.

Thus, the track promotes recycling, reuse and re-integration of waste as raw materials in the production cycle. The goal is to ensure longer product life and an assembly that facilitates the recovery of components, in a practical and economically sustainable way. Examples in the piece refer to coffee grounds becoming “delicious mushrooms” and “spit core” turned into fuel for buses. It also encourages the creation of alternative mechanisms to reduce waste, such as industrial symbiosis, which promotes the exchange of resources between companies, or the adoption of the concept of shared use of goods, typical of the sharing economy.
