When some ingredients are no longer edible, they can find a “second life,” and be used for other purposes. For example, coffee grounds can be added to potting soil in pots or garden soil as a fertilizer. They contain nitrogen and other minerals that enrich the nutrient content of the soil, helping not only house plants to grow, but also reducing the amount of organic material that will become waste (Schattenberg, 2021).
